i just mentioned my love for liz clothing a few posts ago, and i was saddened to hear of her death.

from the new york times:

liz claiborne, the designer of indefatigable career clothes for professional women entering the workforce en masse beginning in the 1970s, died tuesday in manhattan. she was 78.
before she became the most successful women’s apparel designer in america, ms. claiborne had worked for 20 years in the backrooms of seventh avenue sportswear houses like youth guild and juniorite, making peppy dresses.
a strong-willed designer with an acute sense for business, she defied the male-dominated ranks of the fashion industry by starting her own company in 1976 with mr. ortenberg, a textiles executive. in an apt reversal of roles, she gave him the corporate title of secretary...













as i was googling her, i came across the image of her triangular shaped bottle of perfume that was all the rage in junior high...next time i am in a department store i will have to find a bottle...that scent will probably bring back a lot of good memories....

thrift score: a few cool pieces

the supposed largest thrift store in the u.s. is like .75 miles from my house.??? houston, we have a problem. i stopped in quickly after work and scored a few awesome pieces. there is a goodwill like 1/2 block down too. it was one of those stores where the clothes are just thrown in bins and you have to dig to find things. however, everything was like 1$. i even found a denim stonewash mini skirt -- the piece i have been hunting for. alas, it was too small. i didnt realize the clothes were only a dollar until i went to check out or i probably would have just bought it to stare at. the search continues...here is what i brought home...

i am finally playing around with the 80s look. there are just some trends that take a loooong time to seep into my consciousness. then when i finally decide to wear the stuff, either everyone (including 2 year olds) is rocking it, or the trend is done! i had to do a day and evening look. the blue high waisted jeans were giving me a bit of the unfortunate camel toe. i didnt want to distract/disgust the co-workers. i figure in a dark bar or restaurant at night the dreaded CT will not be as noticeable.
